[shadow=red,left,300]It felt like standing alone in the room, though everyone was engaged in a conversation, I sat towards the back of the room. Even though this was a freaking wedding shower, mine in fact. But I could hardly stand it, people were so high and mighty, yet it was obvious that people chatted behind backs. Mostly that bout my bride, and myself, only knowing each other for five months before we became engaged. But they didn’t know about her… not Cari, but her… my first, real love…
She doesn’t plague me anymore… ever since Cari’s been around, I never think of her, or the baby anymore. Anymore…
Though I can say, my life remains….but something tells me…
It’s Not Over…[/shadow]
His eyes wandered across her face, his hand moving the hair away from her eyes. She gave him a playful smile as their eyes were in sync, like everything. It just clicked from the first night they met in the bar. Xavier would wonder, if not for her, would he have ever met Cari. That fucking dream, it was a memory, but it was also what drove Xavier to explore the town that night. The fate filled night where he met his soul mate, without a doubt, he loved Cari, with all of his heart. Nothing would ever change that, no person, no event, no nothing. She could step on his heart, break his very core to pieces, but he’d be that faith filled puppy.
Speaking of puppies, a soft high pitched -yip- broke the silence between the two. Cari laughed a bit as she picked up a small chocolate lab puppy. She was his life, and now they had their own little addition. The strange thing was, they were thinking of children now, but one step at a time, first a puppy, then the wedding, then kids. Xavier always wanted to have a son, ever since he saw he dad with Jaqwan when they were just kids, he always looked up to that. A father, was the greatest thing a man could become, Xavier could only pray, hope, and dream he could be half the father, his dad was to him.
Rubbing the panting puppy’s head, he kissed Cari on the nose as his younger brother tapped on Xavier shoulder. Xavier turned around grinning at his brother, as Cari moved over to her sister’s. Jaqwan grinned at Xavier as the two walked off onto the porch with, Lou Thompson, Chris Cross, and now Xavier and Jaqwan joining them. The four of them all sent grins, though Lou’s was hidden behind a, cleaner beard, than before. Xavier’s thoughts were so jumbled up that he didn’t even notice who was standing next to Chris, it was the waitress they had met in New York, Jerri or Lili was her name.
Chris left her side for a second to put his hand on his cousin’s shoulder. Xavier returned a grin as the two smiled at each other. Jaqwan, Chris, and Xavier had been basically all real brother, the only thing that really stopped that from happening was Jaqwan was adopted, and Chris was his cousin, but they still had a brotherly bond. Even though Chris always got the hard end of the sarcastic stick from Xavier, yet Jaqwan always, always received encouragement from Xavier. This seemed to keep young Jaqwan from gang life, and focus on basketball. But that only reminded Xavier of when the last time he took a life at the hand of someone else’s gun. He had to, to protect Jaqwan, and himself. He’d be dead not if it wasn’t wrestling. Though he always knew how to fight.
Chris had pulled Xavier aside as Jaqwan, Lou, were chatting, while Lili went inside. Lili and Cari had taken a quick liking to each other, it was kind of strange, but like Cari, everyone talked about Lili behind her back. But Chris still cared for her, Xavier was a bit suspicious but it didn’t mean anything to him though.
Chris grinned a bit as he kicked back a beer, Xavier raised his eyebrow, “Aren’t you still 20?” Chris only laughed, “You really think that matters, we did worse stuff at younger ages..” Xavier could dispute that fact, but what he did do was flip the beer from under Chris, sending it over his head and onto the grass below. Xavier shook his head looking at Chris, “Oops, muscle twitch.”
Chris laughed a bit, “Probably from all those steroids.” Xavier didn’t appreciate that comment to much as he locked Chris in a tight headlock, the too spilled out onto the grass wrestling playfully. Chris locked Xavier in a full nelson, but Xavier was stronger, breaking it easily and dropping Chris like a ton of bricks. Locking the sharpshooter on Chris with ease, Chris let out a shout yell in pain. A crowd had gathered watching the two, as Xavier grinned a bit. “Grab my left leg, and pull it, it’ll take me off balance.” Chris did so, but as Xavier felt his hand around his shoe, he broke the hold and held out his hand. Chris took, and Xavier lifted him up, the two of them were grinning, “Next time, I’ll make you tap out.” Xavier only laughed as the two of them pushed past the family crowd.
Xavier sat on the deck with Lou, the two of them looking at each other. Lou spoke first, “Kid, I never did thank you… I woulda died out there on the streets…” Xavier cuts him off, “Get over it, your part of this family now, so it was just the right thing to do.” It was true, Lou clicked with this family, the goofy grandpa. Though what his mother and father had told the family, he was just a business associate of Xavier who had fallen on hard times, and now worked with Xavier’s dad, as an assistant in his lawyer firm.
But in Xavier’s eyes, Lou reminded him so much of his Pop-Pop, grandfather, Pop-Pop was a nickname for his grandpa. The one person Xavier hated to disappoint, Xavier at one point felt he was such a disappointment to his grandfather, that he almost took his own life, drinking and driving…
But his mother, and grandmother had reassured him that, no matter what Xavier could do, he would have never been a disappointment to his grandfather. His mother’s father. His idol. His Pop-Pop.
But, Louis’s eyes, they reminded him so much of Pop Pop, it was uncanny almost. That was the real reason Xavier saved him, because of what he saw. At that point, the only thing that made him a human being was Cari, he was such a man full of hate back then. But Lou, Lou changed that side of him. Who knows, maybe Lou was an angel…
Jaqwan and Xavier sat on the couch, their conversation was quiet, no one around them was listening either way though. Xavier smiled as he looked at his brother, “Coach said I’m going to start every game except the first couple, he wants to test my leg out, doesn’t want me pushing too hard.” Xavier laughs, “Just cuz he knows anyone with the Surname Cross has horrible legs.” Xavier spoke of his own misfortune, which came from an aggravated football injury, that turned horrible on the basketball court during a game, where Xavier pull out basically every major ligament in his leg. Luckily, he could walk, but never play any fast paced sports ever again, but wrestling, it was his new passion.
Xavier looked as his brother, “You did something I couldn’t do, win the big one.” Xavier rubbed his brother’s head. “Your turning 18 this December right? Well looks like I gotta get you something special. Couple of jerseys, shoes, clothes, maybe a meeting with Duke University…” Jaqwan almost didn’t catch that last part. Duke, under Coach K (Mike Krzyzewski). He looked at Xavier questionable, “Yeah, they have been scouting you, I talked to a scout at your AAU championship game last year, and he said they were undecided about bringing you in, though Coach K liked your performances, they just needed a little ‘financial’ push.”
Jaqwan could only hug his brother, something he hadn’t done since he was just a little boy. Xavier patted his shoulder. Jaqwan left with a huge smile across his face. After Jaqwan left, like clock work his parents wandered over to Xavier, who smiled at his parents as they began to speak, his mother started, “So when are you headed to Perth?” she asked, “Well, I got a night flight, I’m going spend most of the morning working out, then I’ll spend the afternoon with Cari, and little Caesar, then Cari is gonna drive me to the airport.” His dad put his hand on Xavier shoulder, “You know where proud of you son, all you’ve done these past few months, I know you probably hear stuff people say about Cari, but me and your mother have taken in as though she was our daughter, and we understand how important she is to you.” Xavier smiled as his mother said, “My little boy is getting married.” she started to tear up, Xavier was never good with crying, never ever was good with it. So Super-Dad jumped in and held his mother as, Xavier hugged his parents and he was off.
We can't let this get away
Let it out, let it out
Don't get caught up in yourself
Let it out
Let's start over
We'll try to do to it right this time around
It's not over
Cause a part of me is dead and in the ground.
This love is killin me
But you're the only one
It's not over
Let's start over
It's not over, yeah...
This love is killin me
But you're the only one
It's not over
Xavier placed his arms around her waist as she chatted with her cousin, Cari knew it was him. Their bodies came together, as the smell around her, that sweet aroma took his breath away. She was his, and he was hers. It didn’t matter what life could possible throw at them, Xavier would give everything, and anything up for her at this point. She turned her head and Xavier met it with a kiss to her lips.
He just wanted to live in this moment forever. He pulled her tightly closer to him, as she turned around and put her arms around his neck. Cross could only smile and say, “Hello Beautiful..” she laid her head on his shoulder, he could feel her smile. A warm chill was sent up his spine, which made him realize, she was his future. He could only wrestle for so long, even if he was Ric Flair like, he couldn’t do it forever. This is something he could do forever, be a husband, be a lover, be a father…
He kissed her forehead as they moved over to the couch. Their hands found each other, she was as close to Xavier as she could be without sitting on him. His arm was wrapped around her. A few family members took pictures as Xavier would make funny faces with some, and just be normal faced with some. At one point Xavier had tickled Cari making her jump.
As he looked in her eyes all he could think of, was she was his life, his reason for living. He realized that every time he wins, she loves him, every time he loses, she loves him. Titles, alliances, anything else can change, but their love, it was forever. He realized, as long as he was with Cari… nothing mattered…
-The Next Day-
Morning came quickly, but Xavier awoke to the sweet smell that rested in her shampoo. Her hair smelt amazing, even if it was the next morning. He ran his hand across her cheek. She yawned and look at him, their eyes met again, and it felt like forever until they broke apart. Xavier sat up leaning against the wall as Cari played with Little Caesar.
She was his one and only, he smiled as the puppy and Cari played a bit. He slowly stood up, in a pair of silk black boxers he leaned down and petted the puppy and kissed Cari. He moved towards the bathroom grabbing a pair of clean boxers as he entered the bathroom, closing the door not wanting the puppy to follow him.
Xavier turned the sink on as he rubbed his beard looking into the mirror, the man he was becoming. Looking back on his life as a kid, then a teen, his ‘gangster’ years. He was getting stronger, he was become different. His heart was in the right place now. Life was getting better, it was getting amazing. He was able to sleep at night, and he was living life to its fullest.
“Good things… They are either on their way, or here already. I couldn’t imagine being in a better position…” he says out loud. He slowly removes his boxers as he turns the shower on and enters it. Running his hands through his hair he doesn’t here someone enter the shower. The warm water running down his face he closes his eyes as he runs shampoo through his hair. Soft nails run their way down his back as he smiles letting the shampoo wash out from his hair. He feels a gentle cheek press against his back, as hands wrap around his waist.
“I love you…more than anything in this world…” he says looking up, letting the water hit his face, “I know baby..” Cari responds, Xavier can only smile at this point.
-That Afternoon-
Cross had skipped training and working out completely, he took Cari out to lunch at red lobster, and caught an early show. The two of them then took little Caesar to pet co. Where Cari told Xavier, “I wanna get two more puppies, a weiny dog, and a beagle.” Xavier laughed and nodded, “Soon.” he said rubbing her chin as the puppy came running back to them with a rope in his mouth. Xavier laughed a bit as Cari picked him up. He could only imagine what having a family would be like.
After Cari had literally spoiled the poor puppy. The three of them were sitting inside Cross’s SUV, the puppy running around in the backseat playing with his toy. Cari was leaned against the window, Xavier broke the silence, “What’s wrong Cari?” she turned back and gave him a weak smile, “Whenever you enter that ring, I’m scared. You do crazy, almost stupid stuff.” Xavier laughs, “Like marrying a girl that I’ve known for 5 months?” Cari punched him in the arm, Cross laughed as the puppy gave a playful bark, “See, Caesar agrees with me.” Xavier smiled as he pulled into a parking lot.
In the back part of the SUV, Xavier’s suitcase laid on its side. As they left they had two new guests in the car, Leonardo the wiener dog, and Mary Jane or MJ the Beagle. Cari was in the backseat playing with all three puppies. Xavier didn’t have to look back her could hear her laughter as they had subdued her with licks.
-That Night-
They pulled into the airport with three sleeping puppies in the back seat. Xavier leaned over, and Cari met him half way, they kissed. It felt like forever, but it was a forever he wouldn’t mind being in. They pulled away, said their goodbyes and about 16 I love yous.
Cross carried his stuff towards the airport. Where was he headed, towards fame, towards glory, but away from the most important thing in his life
The Love of his life.
His everything.
But this was for the better.
So she could have whatever she wanted.
To Bring home that better pay check, for her.
Oh, how he loved her so…
She doesn’t plague me anymore… ever since Cari’s been around, I never think of her, or the baby anymore. Anymore…

What could I say
It all seemed to make sense
You've taken away everything
And I can't deal with that.
